Learning from each other:
Mentoring
at OTTO

The idea of the mentoring program

The world of work can sometimes be challenging, can't it? That's exactly why we rely on the knowledge and experience we have in our company. In an open exchange, experienced colleagues pass on their know-how and support others. Our mentoring program brings mentees and mentors together so that they can find solutions together and benefit from each other's experiences, perspectives and ideas.

Diversity of application areas

From joining the company to working life with children to a new management role - there are no limits to the topics that can be covered by mentoring.
Dana, agile organizational developer and part of the mentoring program, explains in an interview how mentoring works and what experiences she has had as a mentor at OTTO.

Hi Dana! Tell us, why did you decide to take on the role of mentor?

“Looking back, it has always helped me on my career path to date to have mentors and therefore supporters at my side and to develop further with their help. I would like to pass this on and support colleagues in finding their own path.”

What makes mentoring so special for you?

"I appreciate working with people who actively take care of themselves and use this program. I like meeting different types of people from different parts of the organization and being able to support them. As an organizational developer, I also find it exciting to find out where there is a need for support and what structural and cultural factors could influence this."

What topics do you offer mentoring on?

"I offer mentoring on the topics of "Parents@OTTO: With children in professional life", "Resilience: Resilience in turbulent times", "Career starters: Entering the company and the professional world" and "Personal development: In search of new paths"."

Why would you recommend the mentoring program?

"I recommend the program because it gives you the opportunity to take space for personal development, which is essential for any further development. In addition, you get new impulses from outside and have the opportunity to open up in an anonymous, safe space. Through targeted methods that we practise in mentoring, the mentee is empowered to change precisely these things independently and become effective."

What have you personally learned from the program?

"I take a lot from every mentoring program for myself personally. The program has taught me how important it is to engage in cross-functional exchange. I realize how much fun it is to work with individuals and how effective even small interventions can be. It's also always exciting to realize that things that help me or have helped me in the past don't necessarily help others. I am happy to be able to give the mentees an impulse and then see what they have done with it."
